Well said. In the early 1980's, the 'Moral Majority' led by Jerry Falwell, along with other 'socially conservative' leaders on the Christian right entered into an alliance with the Republican party. As the relationship between the two entities developed, Republicans used conservative Christian 'family values' as a political tool to garner support and votes. Evangelicals, Southern Baptists, and their religious leaders failed to condemn what many now call culture wars. Instead they strategized with Republicans and party leaders to promote the deception, lies and us-versus-them mentality among Americans. The Christian mantra 'What Would Jesus Do?' was abandoned in favor of power, influence and greed.
