I'm in my early sixties and retirement is out of the question for me and many others I know. The 2008 housing market debacle devalued my home while property and school taxes continued their meteoric rise. That was followed five years later by elimination of my position at a large corporation where I went from a six figure salary to jobless and zero income. At the time I was over 50 years old and the first job I could find was at 56% of what I was making before. Here I am ten years later in a job that I was fortunate to find five years ago where my salary is about 80% of what I was making in 2013, I raided my 401K to stay afloat but still lost my home. I have no confidence about the future other than it will be a financial struggle that requires I keep working until I drop dead. Not only is it not early retirement, it's no retirement at all.
